6/11/2018 11:00:59 PM
Early Times Report
Srinagar, June 11: To ensure transparency and accountability in providing financial assistance to construction workers in J&K , the newly appointed Vice Chairman of J&K Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (BOCWWB) under State Labour department has appealed labourers to approach him directly instead of going to some self-styled Union leaders. As per reliable sources these so called union leaders have turned into touts from last several years in connivance with the officials of the BOCWWB particularly in Srinagar. Details available with Early Times reveal that in order to keep these touts away, Assistant Labour Commissioner Srinagar recently issued an order directing all the dealing assistants not to entertain these so called Union leaders. Sources say that many people who are not at all construction labouers have been provided financial assistance for marriage of daughters @ Rs 25000 while as real and deserving labourers have been moving from pillar to post. Sources say that the touts take commission from labourers @ Rs 3000 to 5000 which used to be distributed among union leaders. Sources say that the Minister concerned took this issue very seriously and directed the newly appointed VC to reign in these touts and officials.
Pertinently BOCWWB under the scheme called "Muhafiz" nearly 3 lakh workers are registered with Jammu and Kashmir Building and Other Construction Workers' Welfare Board (JKBOCWWB). These workers will be covered under accidental, life and disability insurance besides providing educational scholarships to their children. The scheme also envisages extending micro credit facility to such workers and facilitating their registration through online and other modes.
