R.S.PURA, June 15: World Elders Abuse Awareness Day was celebrated at Gandhi Memorial Higher Secondary School R.S.Pura with the senior students of the school.
It was made clear on the outset that a resolution was passed by the United Nations in the year 2006 that in view of the increasing number of senior citizens and nearly 2/3rd of them being subject to abuse in one way or the other a resolution was passed to celebrate World Elders Abuse Day every year on 15th of June. The caretakers, the children, the civil society and the govt should sit together and spread awareness amongst the youth about their responsibility towards their seniors on this day .
The subject matter was introduced by A.K.Arora president of the association for welfare of senior citizens, a registered NGO.
The word abuse used in the awareness day was explained in detail by him alongwith other cases of elders abuse. Simple examples were given for the young children to understand the importance of the day and how elders are being abused in other matters.
The assocition thanked Abhishek Gupta, Chairman of the school for arranging this celebration on a gazetted holiday and that too in summer. Momentos were presented to the students who spoke on the occasion as well a momento was presented to the school for such an interaction of younger with the senior citizens.
