BJP leader writes to J&K Governor Requesting Cancellation of Withdrawal of Stone Pelting Cases

New Delhi, June 19: Supreme Court advocate and BJP leader Ajay Agrawal has written a letter to Jammu and Kashmir Governor NN Vohra, requesting him to immediately cancel order of withdrawal of prosecution in thousands of cases relating to stone pelters, saying security forces were the victims in these cases. This demand starkly contrasts with the statement given by Home Minister Rajnath Singh in his last visit to Jammu and Kashmir on June 7, where the Home Minister had said that cases of stone pelting against minors will be withdrawn. Rajnath Singh had also added that "we cannot distinguish between our children" referring to the Kashmiri youths and had appealed those "misleading and misguiding" the youngsters of Kashmir to stop doing so. The letter has been tweeted by news agency
This development can be seen in the context of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) pulling out of the coalition government of BJP-PDP earlier in the day. The decision brought down Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti's 27-month-old government amid surging violence in the state.
The decision, which surprised the Mufti-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and came days after the central government decided not to extend the Ramadan ceasefire, made another round of Governor's Rule imminent in the state where no political group or alliance won enough seats in the December 2014 elections to form a government on its own.
Mehbooba Mufti stepped down as the Chief Minister immediately after BJP announced its decision in a televised news conference. She made it clear that the PDP wasn't interested in forming an alliance with the National Conference or the Congress for a new government.
BJP General Secretary Ram Madhav, announcing his party's decision in Delhi, said the state government had failed to curb growing terror and radicalization in the Kashmir Valley, making the continuance of its alliance with the PDP "untenable".
