Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, June 19: National Conference (NC) Vice President, Omar Abdullah today said that his party would not extend support to Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) or any other political group for forming the next government in Jammu & Kashmir.
Addressing a press conference here, Omar said that the offer made by the party in the aftermath of 2014 assembly elections was one time 'offer' and this cannot be extended this time around.
He said that NC has no mandate whatsoever to form the government in the state as was the case in 2014 after the assembly elections.
"We will not support any group to form the next government in the state and at the same time we will not seek support from any group to form the government. The offer made to PDP in 2014 was made to keep Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) away from the government. Since they did not accept our offer why should we repeat the same this time around," said the NC Vice President.
Omar said that since the BJP has come out of coalition with PDP the state government has been reduced to minority and Governor Narendra Nath Vohra should step in and take over the reins of the state. He said that his party would extend full support to Vohra in normalizing the situation in state more so in Kashmir valley.
"The situation has deteriorated to a great extent in the state and the Governor should play his role in normalizing the situation. We as a party are ready to play our part and as such extend support to the Governor in this regard. Once the situation gets normalized then only we can think of fresh elections in the state," said the NC Vice President.
Omar said that as soon as situation gets normalized in the state fresh elections should be held as the people have a right to choose their representatives so that they can form the new government. He said that he was expecting that the PDP-BJP coalition government would come to an end later in the year with 2019 Lok Sabha elections just around the corner. "Both PDP and BJP are equally responsible for the deterioration of situation in the state and none among them can shed their responsibilities. The people in the state are living under the constant fear of violence and same has to be put to an end. Once that happens then only elections can be held in the state," said NC Vice President.
