Early Times Report

Srinagar, June 30: The weather will improve on Sunday though more rain is predicted from Monday onwards in Kashmir valley, where a flood alert has been issued following increase in the water level in river Jhelum and its tributaries due to incessant rain.
A Met department spokesperson told that light to moderate rain and thundershowers would occur at many places in the state during the next 24 hours. "There will be decrease in rainfall activity in the state on Sunday," he said.
However, he said more rain is predicted from Monday onwards in the state.
Meanwhile, incessant rain continued during the next 48 hours in the valley, where maximum and minimum temperatures settled several degrees below normal.
Incessant intermittent rain continued to lash the summer capital, Srinagar, resulting in considerable dip in the temperature. Some low lying areas in Srinagar have been inundated with rain water while the water level in river Jhelum and flood channel have touched the danger mark. The night temperature in the summer capital at 13.7 degree on Saturday was about 4 degree below normal. Meanwhile, the maximum temperature recorded in Srinagar on Friday was 13 degree below normal.
He said skies will be partly cloudy during the next 24 hours in Srinagar, where maximum and minimum temperatures will be around 20 degree and 14 degree, respectively.
The world famous ski resort of Gulmarg, about 55 km from here in north Kashmir, also received incessant rain since Thursday night, resulting in dip in the temperature. The minimum temperature in the ski resort at 8 degree was over 3 degree below normal on Saturday while the maximum temperature on Friday settled over 10 degree below normal.
Rain also lashed other parts of the valley, including world famous health resort of Pahalgam, Qazigund, gateway to the valley, Kupwara in north Kashmir and tourist resort of Kukernag. The maximum in these areas settled 12 degree, 14 degree, 10 degree and 13 degree below normal on Friday.
