NIA trying to fast-track probe into terror related cases in J&K
6/30/2018 10:15:10 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, June 30: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) is trying to speed up investigation of all terror related cases in Jammu and Kashmir.
As many as 20 cases related to the state are being probed by the central agency. Out of these 20 cases, ten cases were registered by the NIA this year itself and relate to terror funding, terrorist incidents as well as the case related to the escape of Pakistani terrorist Naveed Jutt.
Jutt's case assumes significance in the backdrop of his involvement in the assassination of journalist Shujaat Bukhari coming to light. Bukhari was killed on the eve of Eid earlier this month and the Jammu and Kashmir police said on Friday that Jutt was one of the Lashkar terrorists who pulled the trigger. This is the first terror incident after his escape in which Jutt's involvement has come to light.
For the past four months, the NIA has been investigating the terror conspiracy angle behind Jutt's escape and has been on the lookout for him. Jutt fled police custody on February 6 when he was being taken for a checkup to a Srinagar hospital. He was lodged in Srinagar jail where it is learnt that the conspiracy to free him had been hatched.
The case was handed over to the NIA to bring out the full conspiracy of his dramatic escape which had brought huge embarrassment to the jail authorities and the state government.
The NIA sleuths probing the case will need to take note of the fresh developments and charges against Jutt while it is probing the conspiracy of his escape. Sources said the NIA is keen to speed up the probe not only in this case but in all the terror cases related to the state so that the accused can be brought to justice.
So far, out of the 20 terror related cases from Jammu and Kashmir registered by the NIA, chargesheets have been filed in eight cases while investigations are underway or in the initial stages in other cases.
