Stone crushers running illegally in Gair Mumkin Khad
Enforcement agencies become mute spectators, indicating hand in glove
7/7/2018 10:42:32 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, July 7: The law enforcement agencies of the administration have failed to act against stone crushers operating illegally in Gair Mumkin Khad at village Gandharwan near Akhnoor town.
The silence and inaction on part of these enforcement agencies indicates connivance of enforcement officers.
Various laws along with State Water Act, 2010 and even the repeated directions of High Court and even by Supreme Court have failed to make any difference.
"The apex court had called upon the state government to ensure strict monitoring of these crushers that have been running in violation of norms. But owing to delaying tactics of the enforcement agencies and alleged prevailing nexus between babus and crushers' proprietors, these crushers run smoothly, said local of village Gandharwan in Akhnoor town.
Sources said that some stone crushers have been established in Gair Mumkin Khad at village Gandharwan in Akhnoor but the enforcement agencies are least bothered to act these violators.
"Even repeated complaints were lodged with the local administration in this regard but they lways become mute spectators and only forward the complaints down the line and no concrete stps have been taken till", said another local of the village adding that the establishment of these stone crushers in Gair Mumkin Khad increased the risk of flood in the area.
These crusher operators have been greasing the palms of enforcement officers. But as per insiders in State Pollution Control Board (SPCB), over two dozen stone crushers have been operating in violation of norms.
After the flood of September 2014, the High Court had called upon the government, districts administration and the SPCB to demolish all these structures so that the original route of rivulets would be restored and any devastation in future would be saved. But there was no adherence to the court directions and everything has been going on as normal.
