Of 10 , 5 Educational Zones of district Doda headless

Early Times Report
Jammu, July11: In what can be termed as poor state of affairs in the Education Department, several Educational Zones and Government Higher Secondary Schools in district Doda are headless since long. "In absence of Zonal Education Officers (ZEOs) and Principals the quality education has taken a backseat in government run educational institutions across Doda", sources in department concern told Early Times.
In hilly district Doda, there are a total of 10 Educational Zones out of which five zones including Doda, Thatri, Ghat, Gundana and Bhatyas are headless for the last few months.
Instead of appointed Zones heads, the school education department gave additional charges to the officers who already holding important posts of department concern. District Education Planning Officer, Doda shall have additional charge of ZEO Ghat, Zonal Education Planning Officer, Thatri shall have additional charge of ZEO Bhaytas, GHSS Jetheli shall have additional charge of ZEO Gundana and GHS Thatri Headmaster shall have additional charge of ZEO Thatri.
Sources said that in each Education Zone have a number of schools, the absence of ZEOs was severely affecting proper inspection and management of these institutions.
In the absence of ZEOs, studies of students as well as the normal functioning of schools are getting adversely affected.
All this is in the notice of the government but it too seems to be least bothered about these headless institutions.
Ministers of Mehbooba's government reiterated time and again that the schools run by it ought to perform better. How can they do so in absence of adequate staff? Due to vacant posts of ZEOs smooth functioning of hundreds of Middle and Primary schools are getting affected.
"How will you run the flagship education schemes RMSA and SSA when you do not have the officers to monitor those schemes? Why Government has failed to fill the important posts", sources said, adding that in the absence of ZEO, there was no full-time supervisory authority to keep a check on the functioning of schools and attendance of teachers.
Director School Education Jammu, Rakesh Kumar Srangal was not available for comments
