PDP trying to arrest rebellion within its camp to woo voters
7/14/2018 10:29:19 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, July 14 : The PDP, which is experiencing fast erosion in its vote, is set to calm down fears among party legislators and among people of the valley which is the vote base for the PDP. In fact the PDP was born on the ashes of the Congress to prepare an alternative to the National Conference.
That has been the reason for the PDP rejecting support from the Congress and the National Conference, the idea was mooted by Ghulam Nabi Azad, in 2014 and later. And if the PDP is faced with the crisis of political instability the leadership is responsible for it on the ground that Mehbooba could not succeed in the formation of the Government in alliance with the BJP. In fact the alliance with the BJP was a major blunder on the part of Mehbooba. But she was not to be blamed because she had announced that she would fulfill the mission of her father, late Mufti Mohd. Sayeed.
If Sayeed had forged an alliance with the BJP it was done for three reasons. He wanted to end regional discrimination which had surfaced during the 2014 election. It could not be resolved by appointing a senior MLA from the region of Jammu as Deputy Chief Minister. That was the reason for late Mufti to reject support from the grand alliance and that was followed by his daughter.
Thirdly late Mufti Sayeed wanted to secure liberal funds from the BJP led NDA Government in the centre. The centre released liberal financial aid to the state of Jammu and Kashmir but the coalition Government failed to fully utilize these funds on various development projects.
The PDP leadership, especially Mehbooba Mufti, is keen to restore order from the sinking ship of the party. Amid rebellion by some legislators, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has recently held its core group meeting at the Fairview residence of its president and former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti.
It was the first core group meeting after the party lost power in the State and subsequently faced rebellion within its fold. The crucial Core Group meeting chaired by Mehbooba was attended by senior PDP leaders Altaf Bukhari, Abdul Rehman Veeri, Dilawar Mir, Nizammudin Bhat, Ghulam Nabi Lone (Hanjura) and Mehboob Beg.
Two key Core Group members Naeem Akhtar and Sartaj Madni did not show up in the meeting. It seems the two MLAs were busy with some important engagement.
Reliable sources said the reshuffle was expected in the party with some new faces likely to take over the key positions in PDP. Earlier, in a dramatic development, disgruntled PDP legislators Abdul Majeed Padder and Abdul Haq Khan who were blazing guns at Mehbooba met her in the morning.
However, it was not known what transpired in the meeting, sources said.
They said two Rajya Sabha MPs, Nazir Ahmad Laway, Fayaz Ahmad Mir and MLA Javaid Mustafa Mir also met Mehbooba in the morning.
Haq was disgruntled with the PDP leadership over divesting him from the ministry while Padder had openly rebelled against her for turning the party into a "family fiefdom".
The other three disgruntled legislators Imran Ansari, Abid Ansari and Yasir Reshi have not met Mehbooba so far. Gradually the PDP leadership is trying to arrest the revolt within the party. And Mhebooba has to secure support of all the MLAs if she wishes to make the PDP in the reckoning during the next election.
