Chocked drains wreak havoc in Rajouri town
7/16/2018 10:49:12 PM
Early Times Report

Rajouri, July 16: Encroachments on the drains by the shopkeepers, PHE and other departments is responsible for blocking of the drainage system on both sides of the existing roads in and around Rajouri town and the water flowing on the roads has damaged these roads badly.
About 500 meter stretch of road between BGSBU turn and Seema Mor , road between ITI and Malik market, Pirkanju link road, few kilometre road patch from district hospital-PG College-Ujjhan, recently macadamised BGSBU road, Rajouri-Darhal road are few examples which were badly damaged due to blocked drainage. Either the people have encroached the drains or these were blocked as the PHE department has passed their supply lines through them which caused blockage.
During ensuing rainy season the rain water gets accumulated on the roads at many places also causing inconvenience to the commuters and pedestrians.
Recently due to choked drainages the rain water had entered the houses and shops near Darhali Bridge in the vicinity of district hospital.
The road between BGSBU turn and Seema Mor (turn) is badly damaged because the drainages on both the sides of the road got choked as many shopkeepers have encroached the drainages at some places the debris due to construction work was dumped in these drainages.
On the directions from the district administration and after several complaints by the local people the black toping and levelling work has been taken in hand by the PW (R&B) department on this patch of the road.
"Department has issued notices to the owners of the shops to remove the encroachments at their own otherwise department will soon start anti-encroachment drive" said Mushtaq Raina , Executive Engineer, PWD (RE&B).
He added similarly the drainages system will be cleared at other places also so that the roads may be made for smooth flow of vehicles and safe for the pedestrians.
He himself visited the several locations in and around the town and directed the concerned AEEs and JEs to speed up the repair/ black toping works. "As for as BGSBU road is concerned the contractor is responsible for the repair work as he recently had black topped the road" said Raina.
