| Portable drinking water for all still a distant dream | | |  Early Times Report
RAMBAN, July 28: Despite tall claims of government to provide safe drinking water to all the people of the state, a number of areas are still without drinking water.
There are number of schemes launched by both centre as well as state government to make the people's lives more comfortable. But the people sitting on the helm forget to serve people.
People of Ward no 6 and 7 of Lower Maitra Ramban town are suffering from unavailability of portable drinking water from the past more than 30 years. "There is only one drinking water tap for about 100 families which is also beakish adding to the woes of the residents.
The main source of water supply for our houses is nallah which is which is contaminated caused many water born diseases" said Gopal Raina a resident of the area.
He alleged that the concerned department is not taking any concrete step to resolve our problems, many times we approach them but there is no positive response from their side.
They said that we are forced to lift drinking water from one kilometer away from our houses.
"The government has well versed that many people of the area are struggling with different chronic diseases due to the contaminated drinking water, but administration has failed to supply safe drinking water for saving our lives" he added.
"It is very unfortunate that after passing near a decade Ramban got the status of district, the administration is completely failed to provide drinking water in the same area where district headquarter is located, one can easily assess their speed and capability to plan and execute the essential schemes for the betterment of the society" he maintain. |
