KUPWARA, Aug 2: Two militants were killed today in an encounter at Khumriyal area of Lolab in this north Kashmir district, the slain militants were involved in rifle snatching from a police cop in the same district.
A top police official while talking to early times said that, the two militants were killed today in an encounter in Lolab area.
Giving details the police official said that, we had specific inputs about the presence of militants in the dense woods of Khumriyal village in Lolab area, after which the joint team of SOG and army launched a search operation to trace the militants.
As the joint team approached the suspected spot the militants opened fire triggering off an encounter between two sides, the official said.
The slain militants were identified as Zahoor Ahmad and Bilal Ahmad of Shatmuqam village, adding the bodies of the duo was recovered along with weapons including AK-47 and Insas rifle apparently looted from Police cop on Tuesday at Kandhar area in the district, said sources.
However sources said that two militants were killed who identity was not immediately ascertained but the security forces have recovered two rifles from their possession.
It is pertinent to mention here that on July 31, there were reports that some unidentified persons overpowered a cop and snatched his service rifle from Kandhar area of this border district.
The rifle was snatched from policeman namely Mohammad Ishaq (belt no. 436) of 4th IRP bn who is part of the deployment in wake of former minister and MLA Abdul Haq Khan.
The unknown persons had decamped with INSAS rifle of a police cop at Kandhar area of Maidanpora Lolab, and police said that the two INSAS rifles were recovered today from the possession of militants, said sources.
It is also learnt that, the operation against the militants is on in this frontier district from past three weeks, as there remains a movement of suspected militants in the forests of Kupwara.
