2 Punjab based drug peddlers held with 14 kgs of poppy straw

Jammu, Aug 2: In continuation to operation 'Sanjeevani', a special drive against drugs launched by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu Vivek Gupta, today Gandhi Nagar police claimed to have arrested two Punjab based drug peddlers and recovered 14 kg poppy straw (bhukki) from their possession. Police spokesman said that yesterday police party from Gandhi Nagar police station performing patrolling duty in Digiana area for checking of vehicles/ suspicious activities and during patrolling two individuals roaming in the area on seeing police party tried to escape in suspicious circumstances but the in-charge party assisted by other officials chased/ caught hold of them. "During questioning, they disclosed their names as Lakhvinder Singh of Taran Taran Punjab and Rinku Singh of Amritsar Punjab", said spokesman adding that and on checking 6 Kgs and 8 Kgs of Poppy Straw respectively was recovered from the possession of both the accused persons. Accordingly a case under FIR No. 171/2018 under section 8/15 NDPS Act was registered at Gandhi Nagar police station and investigation started. "During questioning these drug peddler deposed that they purchased the Poppy Straw from Srinagar and were to sell it at Jammu/Punjab at the higher rate among the youth and other people of society thereby spreading the menace of drugs in the society", said spokesman. The arrest and recovery has been made by Inspector Sunil Singh Jasrotia-SHO Gandhi Nagar assisted by SI Kali Charan in-charge police post Digiana under the supervision of DySP Rafiq Manhas-SDPO City South, in-charge SP City South Vinay Kumar.
