Parties play politics over Articles 370, 35-A : MPEJ

Early times Report

JAMMU, Aug 5: It is irony of fate that the people, in whom they repose faith as the saviours of democracy or democratic institutions, are in fact the real killers of democratic institutions. In a press statement issued here, Ram Singh Chouhan and Kuldeep Kumar Rao, the active members of Movement for Peace Equality and Justice said don't get misled by these traditional political Parties they are not saviour of democratic Institutions or Article 370 or 35-A but are the real killers of these Institutions.
According to statement, they thanked the Governor for rescinding the most unpopular amendment in Panchayati Raj Act banning direct election to the institution of Sarpanch thereby opening Pandora box for corruption through horse trading, they strongly condemned the anti-democratic attitude of successive state governments in the past and most recently the BJP and PDP government who tried to weaken the basic democratic institution-the Panchayats, ULBs to meet their selfish political ends as the MLAs and MLCs and ministers are real enemies to Panchayati Raj Institutions. Around 26,000 crores, meant for direct investment in rural villages through public representatives, have lapsed for last 70 years because of Panchayats not being in place. Again it is pertinent to point out that elections to Urban Local Bodies have not been held for last more than 8 and half year and to the Panchayats for last more than 2 and half years and this period includes NC-Congress and PDP-BJP rule.
They appealed the Governor to create history by constituting the first ever Block Development Councils (Block Samities) and District Planning and Development Boards ( Zilla Parishads) in the state like other parts of the country and let it be a slap on the face of so called public representatives. They further strongly criticized various Political Parties for appealing their cadres to gear up to Panchayati polls, saying that these elections are always held on 'Non-Party basis' then why they are polluting the atmosphere in the state already passing through most difficult phase of turmoil in its history because of abuse of their political positions. The poor Kashmiris' have always been exploited by the Kashmiri politicians by dirty techniques of showing Pakistani salt and green cloth to win the election. They have simply exploited the sentiments of people in the garb of Article 370 to enhance only their political interests. Why no implementation of constitutional amendment no 73 and 74 to empower the Panchyati Raj Institutions in the interest of the poor people of the state? Why six years term for Assembly in the State contrary to other states in the country? Is it not the misuse of article 370 they questioned?
