Administration wakes up to Swachh Bharat Mission
Jammu-Poonch Highway to have public conveniences

Early Times Report

Rajouri, Aug 5: Prime Minister's dream project Swachh Bharat Mission seems to have no significance as authorities have allowed the 100 kilometre stretch of NH144-A, Jammu-Poonch national highway to be reduced into a ghetto of unhygienic Dhabas and eatpoints.
State and district administrations have forgotten to provide toilet complexes at different places to avoid open defection on highway and to provide relief to women commuters.
"Many time women commuters are subjected to grave inconvenience in the absence of toilet complexes" said Yog Raj.
Even about 152 kilometre Jammu-Poonch highway up to Rajouri town has no well maintained official sanitary complex like 'Sulabh Souchalaya'.
After several complaints in this matter from general public district administration under Swatch Bharat Abhiyan has decided to construct 21 passenger sheds and equal number of sanitary complexes along national highway and Rajouri-Budhal, Rajouri-Darhal and Rajouri-Poonch roads.
In this connection a meeting of the district officers was chaired by MA Asad, Deputy Commissioner on July 24 and sites for toilet complexes were finalized. "The sites for the construction of sanitary /passenger sheds have been identified along the national highway to facilitate commuters, tourists and 'yatris' (pilgrims)" said Mohd Shafait , district information officer (DIO).
He added all the concerned tehsildars have been asked to provide land and soon the construction work will be taken in hand.
