| Jammu peripheries await upgraded health infrastructure | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 30: Three health institutions including a maternity hospital at Gandhi Nagar, Jammu were announced with fanfare by Omar Abdullah led Government to reduce already over burdened GMC and its associated hospitals, but successors never bothered to complete these projects, even after missing several deadlines.
Presently three projects eagerly waiting their completion are 200 bedded Maternity Hospital Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, Community Health Centre, R S Pura and Sub District Hospital Bishnah. At present all of them crying for Government's attention.
"Construction works of CHC, R S Pura and SDH Bishnah is being executed by J&K Housing Board, and works begun long back, after missing several deadline the executive agency is still in no position to handed-over the buildings to Health Department", sources informed and added that recently Director Health Services Jammu and Deputy Commissioner Jammu had asked executing agency to expedite the works so that the services of these buildings can be utilised.
Unfortunately, the building of prestigious first ever, Maternity Hospital Gandhi Nagar Jammu is still under construction. "Though construction of the building was started in financial year 2012-2013, after missing three deadlines, the project still hanging in balance", they said and added that the purpose of this hospital was to reduce burden of SMGS Hospital and provide advance health care facility mothers and their babies.
The callousness of concerned department can be gauged from the fact if the executive agency has failed to complete these projects within timeframe, the Health Department rather than taking action against the executing agencies, seems busy to send only reminders. |
