Amid abduction of cop families, JKP busy with 'Run for Peace'
9/1/2018 10:27:08 PM
Early Times Report

Srinagar, Sept 1: Even as militants have started abduction of family members of Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel and have threatened to intensity such dastardly acts in the coming days, the JKP are busy with "Run For Peace" to be held in summer capital.
Amid new threat from coward militants , the police are concentrating on holding of 'Run for Peace-2018' on September 2 from Lake View Police Golf Course, Srinagar, up to the University of Kashmir.
Official said Director General of Police Dr SP Vaid is scheduled to flag off the event being conducted on September 2 at Lake View Police Golf Course Srinagar. Advisor to Governor J&K K Vijay Kumar will be the chief guest at the presentation ceremony.
The event is being organized by Jammu and Kashmir Police, under its Civic Action Programme (CAP) and it will be flagged off at 05:30 AM and the presentation ceremony will be held at 09:00 AM at lake view environmental Park, Srinagar.
But the security analyst are unhappy with the development. "At a time when the policing should be intensified to counter militants who have been abducting policemen and their families, the police is wanting to give a rosy picture of the poor state of policing," said a security analyst monitoring situation in Kashmir.
Sources said New Delhi has already taken serious note of the poor policing in the state.
"Policing is in a mess since the killing of Burhan Wani as situation continues to aggravate with regard to rise of militancy since," the security analyst added.
A retired police official said it was unfortunate that when police should concentrate fully towards the new threat from militants sporting events were being held.
Pertinently, police said the Run for Peace is open for all interested to participate in men, women, boys, girls sections and has been divided into six different categories based on distance to be covered by the athletes which include Full Marathon of 42 km for men, Half Marathon of 21 km for both men and women (to be flagged off separately), 8 km run for under-14 boys, 6 km run for under-14 girls, Run for Fun of 4 km for both men and women irrespective of age.
The police said aspirants can register themselves with Sports control room established at Lake View Police Golf Course Srinagar round the clock on any working day besides on-spot registration at the venue would also be available on the day of marathon.
Meanwhile a day ahead of the sporting event, three policemen and eight relatives of police personnel kidnapped by terrorists in south Kashmir were set free.
Among the abducted policemen, was a sub inspector as well.
Terrorists had raided on the homes of policemen and kidnapped 11 of their relatives in Anantnag, Kulgam, Shopian and Pulwama districts late Thursday evening.
Despite repeated attempts the police couldn't be contacted for comments.
