Engineer M M Gupta elected President PECOSA J&K chapter

JAMMU, Sept 2: Engineer M M Gupta has been elected as President of PECOSA, Jammu & Kashmir chapter.
The elections were held under the supervision of central team comprising of Engineer K K Vohra, President accompanied by Engineer Sanjeev Moudgil and Col Sanjeev Koul members of central executive committee. Gupta, presently Chief Engineer SMVDSB was elected President along with a team of office bearers and members of executive committee.
The PECOSA J & K Chapter shall have around 90 members of various batches who have passed out from Punjab Engineering College Chandigarh and are now residents of J&K. Vohra while addressing the gathering threw light on the aims and objectives of PECOSA and responsibilities of the Chapter in the furtherance of the aims and objectives of PECOSA.
PECOSA is the Alumni Association of the premier institution of the country, Punjab Engineering College (deemed to be university) Chandigarh. The history of the Punjab Engineering College Chandigarh dates back to Mughalpura Technical Institute established in 1921 in Lahore. After partition, the institute was first shifted to Roorkee and later to Chandigarh.
The Alumni has played a great role in the construction of Bhakra Dam and other multipurpose irrigation and power projects, irrigation canals, roads, thermal power plants and erection of transmission and distribution network in the northern part of the country which led to Green Revolution and accelerated industrialization in Northern India.
PECOSA takes pride in the fact that at least three alumni of the institute, Engineer Jaspal Bhatti, Engineer Satish Kumar and Engineer Chander Mohan were awarded prestigious Padam Bhushan/Padam Shree Awards in recognition of their services to the nation. The alumni of the institute with their bold vision and intellectual capabilities also made their presence felt in other countries like the USA, Canada and Australia. Kalpana Chawla and Shallabh Kumar are also alumni of the Punjab Engineering College Chandigarh.
The main aims and objectives of PECOSA are to foster fraternity among its alumni and strengthen mutual relationships between the alumni and the institute as well as between the alumni and the present students of the institute. In pursuit of these aims and objectives, the PECOSA gives scholarships worth around 8 lakh rupees every year to the needy and meritorious students of the institute.
