KVK begins month long vocational training

POONCH, Sept 14: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Poonch of Sher-e-Kashmir university of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu under the patronage of Directorate of Extension Education, SKUAST-Jammu started a month long vocational training programme on cutting and switching at KVK, campus, Poonch.
The programme is being attended by 25 unemployed rural girls of different villages of the district. The programme is being organized under the guidance of ADEE and I/c, KVKs, of SKUAST-Jammu, Dr. R K Arora. I/c. Sr. Scientist and Head, KVK Poonch Dr. Ajay Gupta, gave a detailed view of the programme and said that the purpose of the training was to provide skill in cutting and tailoring to school dropouts and unemployed rural girls so as to become self-dependent. He informed that month long vocational training programme on cutting and tailoring started on 10 September 2018 and will continue for one month. He said that women trained in cutting and tailoring can generate additional income through tailoring profession sitting at home and some of them can also start their entrepreneurship by opening boutiques as there is good demand in this sector.
He informed the participants that KVK has arranged female trainer for this training programme so that the female participants freely interact and learn the difficult steps of tailoring. Addressing the participants, Dr. Muzafar Mir urged all the participants to make full use of this opportunity and also assured full cooperation from the KVK to uplift their socio-economic status. Dr. Muneeshwar Sharma highlighted that skill training for rural youth will lead to better livelihood opportunities for rural women and Prime Minister Modi has always given wider emphasis for organizing skill development courses through various National schemes viz. PMKVY.
Saleema Akhter, Master trainer elaborated that training will include body measurement, cutting tailoring and finishing of garments, alteration defects and remedies to fitting problems etc for the participants continuously during month long programme. All the participants will be given due chance to the cutting and stitching, learning by doing, she added. The participants applauded the efforts taken by the KVK to organize this week long vocational training programme and pledged to utilize this opportunity to increase their income and support their family.
