Vital posts in Agri deptt vacant for months
9/14/2018 10:53:25 PM
Early Times Report
jammu, Sept 14: There seem no takers for the initiatives of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to improve the farmers' conditions, as despite availability of competent officers, a large number of posts in the Agriculture Production department are vacant for many months.
According to sources, several posts in Kashmir valley were vacant but have been filled by posting junior officers. But in Jammu province the posts have been vacant and department was unwilling to fill them.
The situation in Director of APD Jammu is far more worse with more than 40 posts of officers have been lying vacant since months together.
These posts include the post of Chief Agriculture officer Jammu, which has been lying vacant since May 2018. The post of Deputy Director Central is also vacant since May 2018, Assistant Entomologist post has been vacant since July 2018.
Similarly, the post of Assistant Director Law Enforcement is also vacant since August 2018, the post of Plant Protection Officer and Chief Agriculture Officer Udhampur have been vacant since June 2018.
The post of Joint Director Agriculture Extension Jammu has been vacant since September 1, 2018.
Moreover, a total of over 28 posts of district level officers have been vacant in Jammu province alone, but on the other hand in case of these posts have been filled by the department by giving charge of the posts to junior officers.
The officers of the department said that no seniority/no DPC of the Gazetteed officers has been conducted by the department for the last more than three decades, which has led to favouritism, corruption and nepotism.
There is no dearth of eligible officers in the department but it is the failure of competent authorities. "Various schemes launched by PM Modi to double the income of farmers have proved non-starter in Jammu and Kashmir and it could also be attributed to the fact that large number of posts have been vacant and in such situation how these schemes could be implemented", an official said, adding that it also showed the non-serious attitude of government towards the plight of farming community.
