Export of terror from Pak has added new dimensions to security scenario
10/8/2018 10:05:38 PM
The ULB and Panchayat elections in Jammu and Kashmir have assumed new dimensions with the two mainstream political parties, NC and the PDP, announcing the boycott the participation in the elections. It is for the first time that scores of candidates have been elected unopposed. There have been 169 municipal wards which will have no polls. At least 169 municipal wards in Kashmir will have no polls. One candidate withdrew from the elections on, the last date of withdrawal of nominations for the third phase of the polls. As per the latest figures, at least 179 candidates in Kashmir are likely to win the elections without contest, while 250 wards will face election in the next two weeks. According to official figures of the chief electoral office, at least 426 nominations were found valid from the 14 municipalities of J&K falling under the third phase of the election process. The last date of withdrawal of nomination for the fourth phase is October 5.
The polling for 79 municipal bodies will be held in four phases on October 8, 10, 13 and 16. And during all these days the separatists have given a call for shutdown indicating that they have suggested to people to boycott the polling. Yes, the separatists had been giving calls for boycotting the polling during the Assembly or the Lok Sabha elections but the PDP and the NC boycott of the elections to the ULB and to the Panchayats seem to have encouraged these separatists, hardliners and the moderates, to call for complete shutdown for these days of polling. This means polling booths could not have the site of long lines of voters and that too after majority of candidates have won uncontested. Though the contesting candidates have been carried out to secure places under the cover of security forces but there could be incidents of violence wherever separatists and militants see long lines of voters.
It is not only in south Kashmir but in other parts of Kashmir that the situation is tense because of the call for shutdown by the separatists. Additional companies of security forces have been deployed in are as where there is a possibility of some mischief mongers trying to disrupt peaceful polling. And these separatists have dubbed the deployment of additional forces to suppress people. Well this not for the first time the ULB and the Panchayat elections are being held in the state, especially the Kashmir valley. But because of the export of terror from Pakistan the security scenario has assumed alarming dimensions. But the Congress has its own tale and has blamed the BJP for importing candidates from outside the valley. It needs investigation.
