80.19 % polling in ULB Ist phase elections in Rajouri

Rajouri, Oct 8: In the first phase of elections for Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) in Rajouri district 80.19% polling has been recorded according to official figures provided by the district election authorities.
Peaceful polling has been witnessed from Sunderbani, Nowshera, Kalakot , Thanamandi and Rajouri towns.In a healthy sign for the democratic process 9843 women casts their votes against 10172 males.
The average polling percentage stood at an impressive at 80.19 % while the municipal committee wise figures were Thanamandi 90.23 & Sunderbani 89.63%. Rajouri 74.71% , Kalakot 86.25 %, Nowshera 86.01 %.
Additional Deputy Commissioner, ADC Sher Singh informed that out of 24970 legal voters 20015 including 9843 women cast their votes for 5 municipalities.
Rajouri Municipality have maximum number of voters 14520 out of which 10848 voters excercised their franchise that includes 5347 female voters while out of 3437 legal voters in Nowshera municipality 2498 voters casts their votes including 1444 women.
For Sunderbani municipality out of 2805 legal voters 2514 used their franchise including 1246 women and for Kalakot municipality out of 2305 legal voters 1988 including 953 women cast their votes.
Highest voting of 90.23% was reported from Thanamandi town where out of 1903 legal voters 1717 casts their votes including 853 women.
According to reports almost equal number of women voters as compared to males exercised their right of franchise in the Municipality election in Rajouri district which, according to official sources, is a health sign.
For the free and fair polling especially for declared 4 hyper sensitive and 33 sensitive pooling booths out of total 61 booths, district administration in collaboration with police had made adequate security arrangements under the supervision of M.A Asad, DDC and Yougal Manhas, SSP.
"It was a festive mood in all the 17 wards of Rajouri town and people used their power of vote after more than 4 years of Assembly elections and 13 years for ULB election" said Yogesh Sharma, political/social leader.
