Excise Deptt foils smuggling of Cement

Lakhanpur, Oct 11: Continuing its drive against smugglers who bring various material from Punjab evading tax, the
Excise Department has caught a vehicle bearing registration No.JK08E-5387 carrying 50 bags of cement illegally to evade Toll.
Acting on specific inputs, the Excise department team lead by ETO Abhishake Abrol, Inspectors Dheeraj Kumar, Shadi Lal, Sub-Inspectors, Kamaljeet Shan, Manvinder Paul Singh, Touseef Sheikh and Ravi Kumar, Excise Guards Balbir Singh, Noor Hussain and Rajesh Kumar alongwith Driver Romesh Singh laid nakas at different points and chased the evading vehicle in a calculated and strategic manner at Chakdhari.
The accused driver had a scuffle with the Excise team but eventually was apprehended and the vehicle was confiscated by the team and brought to Toll Post Lakhanpur. On scrutiny of the vehicle it was found that cement was being transported into the State without proper documents to evade the Toll and GST. After realization of Penalty to the tune of Rs.30,030/- under J & K Levy of Tolls Act Svt 1995 the said vehicle was handed over to the Commercial Taxes Department for further proceeding under rules.
Whole operation was monitored and presided by Ashish Kumar Gupta, Deputy Excise Commissioner, toll Post Lakhanpur under overall guidance of Excise Commissioner, Talat Parvez Rohella. It is worthwhile to mention here that the Deputy Excise Commissioner, Toll Post Lakhanpur has been very particular against the Cement smugglers and Tax evaders which is evident from the facts that team of Lakhanpur has foiled smuggling of 89550 kgs of cement and penalized nearly Rs. 10.48 Lac from cement smugglers on during the current financial year till date. Deputy Excise Commissioner appreciated the efforts of the staff in nabbing the evaders and warned the evaders to desist from making such attempts
