10/11/2018 11:19:10 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 11: Acting on a complaint filed with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Jammu and Kashmir regarding alleged defacement of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) by an Independent candidate in the recently concluded Municipal Election, an official communication from the office of the CEO has been sent to the District Electoral Officer for factual report.
The complainant namely Gurvinder Singh has alleged that he has come to know from voters of his area that S. Inder Singh who contested 2018 municipal corporation election from ward No. 44. Jammu as an Independent candidate has committed offence mentioned under relevant provisions of the Representation of People Act, 1951 by defacing the EVM and tempering with official mark.
"The Independent candidate has pasted paper slips on his allotted election symbol/official symbol", the complainant has alleged in his complaint.
The complainant has said that tempering of EVM is considered to be corrupt practice and the person doing the same should be punished accordingly.
The complainant alleged that the above named accused seems to have done the same in connivance with the officials deployed on election duty in ward No. 44.
"S. Inder Singh who is a contractor by profession seems to have done the tempering to draw undue benefit out of the same to win the election", reads the complaint.
The complainant further alleged that he apprehends that the accused must have removed the papers slips that he had pasted on the EVMs and the same requires forensic probe.
To trace the offence committed by him, the complainant requested the authorities to immediately cease the EVMs used in ward No. 44, Jammu and if the same is not done, the accused may take undue benefit by fraudulent means.
It is pertinent is mention here that a communication from the office of the Chief Electoral Officer Jammu and Kashmir, Srinagar vide no. 2020/CEO/ME/Complaint/2018/16576 dated 11-10-2018 has been sent to the District Election Officer for factual report in this connection.
