| Abdullahs go silent, ask others to speak | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Oct 11: Unnerved by inputs that some new faces who are not from dynastic politics, may get take power in the ongoing Local Urban Body polls, the Abdullahs of National Conference (NC) have gone silent.
Sources said for the past few days the Abdullahs have stopped issuing statements in their names and have asked other leaders to speak on behalf of the party.
Sources said after making MLA Shamima Firdous to issue statement against RSS and BJP, in the latest, the former minister and MLA Aga Ruhulla Mehdi was asked to take dig at the Raj Bhawan.
In a seemingly crude-worded statement Ruhulla said that J&K Governor SP Malik is playing a "partisan role" in the state and is "implementing the agenda of RSS-BJP combine in letter and spirit" by sidelining the significance of institutions and governing ethics.
Expressing concern, Ruhullah in a statement said that tenure of incumbent Governor of Jammu and Kashmir is "evocative of Sadiq Era during which the candidates were selected rather than being elected."
Interestingly even though the party said none of them were contesting in the ongoing polls Ruhulla looked concerned on who would be the mayor.
He said that the whole process of "elections is a smokescreen" and it seems that the selection has already been done by the Governor's office.
"The Governor should come clean on the issue and make public as to why were the gimmick of elections played, people fooled and democratic institutions demeaned," he said.
Last week senior NC leader Ali Muhammad Sagar had issued a statement against the Governor.
But as for Abdullahs they "personally want to maintain cordial relations" with the Raj Bhawan.
Barely a day after NC President Omar Abdullah called on Governor SP Malik, Sagar had spoken against the Raj Bhawan.
In the latest Aga Ruhulla has spoken when Dr Abdullah mains "very good relations" with the Raj Bhawan.
"See Dr Abdullah was first to receive him (Governor) at the airport. And his son also often visits Raj Bhawan.
But the Abdullahs want other party persons to speak against the Governor," said a NC leader on the condition of anonymity.
Despite repeated attempts the party leadership couldn't be contacted for comments. |
