BARAMULLA, Oct 17: Militants hurled grenades today at two places in Baramulla district causing injuries to three policemen including an officer in Pattan, after which a newly militant was caught alive, while as suspected militants lobbed a grenade at army camp in Rafiabad area in which one civilian was injured.
According to top police official , based on specific inputs that some militants are travelling on Baramulla-Srinagar highway, Police Naka party deployed at Baba Teng Pattan were checking the vehicles.
"In the meanwhile, while a passenger vehicle was signaled to stop, militants boarding the vehicle lobbed a hand grenade on police party", the police official said.
The official said that, in the incident one Police Officer of DySP rank Zaffar Mehdi, and two policemen Shabir Ahmad and Ashiq Hussain got injured who were evacuated to hospital and are stable.
The preliminary reports said that, soon after the grenade attack, a joint team of security forces including police, SOG and army cordoned off the whole area to nab the assailants.
Meanwhile police officer further said that, from the scene of crime and while being chased one militant was caught alive.
The arrested militant has been identified as Faizan Majeed Bhat S/OAbdul Majeed Bhat R/O Naibug Tral who had got recruited in militant ranks on October 3/2018, the official said.
He along with other militant Showkat Ahmad Bhat R/O Awantipora managed to escape had joined Tehreekul Mujahideen proscribed militant outfit, further investigation into the matter is going on, the police official added.
However sources told early times that, suspected militants lobbed a grenade on 32 RR camp at Rafiabad on Wednesday evening.
Suspected militants lobbed a grenade on 32 RR Unit at Trakpora area of Rafiabad which exploded outside the boundary, said sources.
They said that a 42 year old civilian Mohammad Ashoor Mir of Rohama Rafiabad sustained splinter injuries and was taken to nearby hospital for medical treatment, and later he was discharged. Meanwhile a senior police official said that, the militants hurled a grenade that exploded outside the fencing wall, and one civilian got injured, and soon after the incident, the whole area was cordoned off to nab the attackers.
Earlier in a day, a mysterious blast created panic in Dooru village of Sopore town today morning.
Sources also said that today morning a mysterious blast created fear and panic among the residents in Dooru village of Sopore.
However there was no loss of life or property due to the blast, said sources.
