Killing of top LeT militant big success for security forces

Jammu, Oct 17: The security forces here said that gunning down top militant of LeT was a major success as he was brain behind resumption of militancy to the Srinagar city. Mehraj- ud-din Bangroo resident of Narparastan Feteh Kadal Srinagar along with another militants was killed in a gunfight with forces early morning on Wednesday.
Sources in Jammu and Kashmir police department reveal that at least 10 youth from Srinagar had joined militancy in last three years, out of which 7 were killed in gunfights in various parts of the Kashmir Valley while Fahad Waza and Mehraj-ud-Din Bangroo of Srinagar was gunned down on Wednesday.
However sources said that separatist leader's son Junaid Sehrai is still believed to be active in the Srinagar city.
Sources said that Mehraj was the district commander of LeT and was believed to be the brain behind the revival of insurgency in the city. "Mehraj was the brain behind the local youth picking up guns which has brought Srinagar on militancy map. From last two years small groups of foreign militants belonging to LeT have successfully been infiltrating into the city due to Mehraj's help," sources in the intelligence agencies said.
"He was also believed to be one of the attackers in Achabal case where five Policemen including an SHO were killed on July 16, 2017," sources maintained.
Bangroo had also appeared in the list of most wanted Militants prepared by Forces in 2018. Sources said that Bangroo had given slip to the forces several times in South as well as Central Kashmir. Meanwhile police said that Mehraj-ud-Din Bangroo @Asif @Piya son of Sona-ul-Lah Bangroo resident of Narparistan FatehKadal had a long history of criminal records pertaining to terror related activities.
"He was involved in cases pertaining to killing of one police personnel and snatching of his weapon at Tengpora Batamaloo. He was also involved in several terror attacks including series of grenade attacks," the police said.
The police also said that Faid Mushtaq Waza son of Mushtaq Ahmad Waza resident of Akilmir Khanyar was also involved in several terror related incidents.
Meanwhile sources in the police said that now hunt is on to nab Junaid Sehrai, son of so called Separatist leader Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai.
