Women in Kashmir need help in weaning them away from terrorism
10/19/2018 10:21:51 PM
Was reconstitution of the Board of
Directors of the Jammu and Kashmir Women's Development Corporation was needed at a time when the State is having to face new challenges during the ULB and Panchayat elections? It seems that polls will not allow various development projects to be stalled. And during the polls or during the height of militancy related violence it would be almost a surrender before terrorists if the Government ignores the rate of progress of various Boards. The Governor's Administration has ordered reconstitution of the Board of Directors of the J&K State Women's Development Corporation (JKSWDC). According to an order issued by the Secretary Social Welfare, DR Farooq Ahmad Lone, Advisor to the Governor, Khurshid Ahmad Ganai will be the Chairman of the reconstituted Board of Directors.
The Directors include Administrative Secretary, Finance; Administrative Secretary Social Welfare; Chairman-cum-Managing Director, National Handicapped Finance & Development Corporation (NHFDC), New Delhi; Managing Director, National Backward Classes Finance & Development Corporation (NBCFDC) New Delhi; Managing Director, National Minorities Finance & Development Corporation (NMFDC) New Delhi;
Managing Director, J&K State Women's Development Corporation; Prog Yasmeen Ashai, Principal, Amar Singh College Srinagar; Muslim Jan, Media Coordinator, University of Kashmir and Dr Kavita Suri, Director & Head Department of Lifelong Learning, University of Jammu. It is quite evident that Women's Development Corporation has assumed a national level look with people from New Delhi as Directors. This would mean that if the Women's Development Corporation needed some help, technically or financially, the nation would be with it and the people of Kashmir. Since the Corporation, in many states, generate women development programmes Including the skill development it needs a national colour.
In Kerala Women Development Corporation organized many number of programmes which helped women belonging to the below poverty line to generate income. These women belonging to the BPL classes were able to start their business entrepreneurship to have some means of gainful employment. Women have been hit hard by militancy in the Kashmir valley and most of them have become destitute, widows and children orphans. This section of women have to be looked after the Corporation and if the Board of Directors are seasoned bureaucrats or well placed people they could help women trainee to learn various arts. This way women in Kashmir have to be weaned away from militancy and once they are away from terrorism they will not allow their wards to join militancy.
