Early Times Report

Srinagar, Oct 19: A rape accused in Kishtwar has married the victim after the latter filed a case against him last week.
The rape accused, a Handloom department employee, married the victim in a local temple in Kishtwar after five-day deliberations with the family of the victim and with active support of Kishtwar police. The victim, inspired from the #MeToo# campaign, had filed a case against the employee of the Handloom department and his friend alleging that they had been blackmailing her after recording her porn videos which were captured while raping her the office premises of Assistant Director Handloom in the Deputy Commissioner complex Kishtwar.
The rape victim filed the complaint before Station House Police officer Kishtwar on Sunday last alleging that the accused met her about two years ago. With the passage of time, the accused got close to the girl and offered her a marriage proposal.
She said that she was reluctant to accept the marriage proposal but after rethinking over it, she stated that she agreed the said marriage proposal from the accused. She said that the accused taking the advantage of her innocence took her to a hotel in Jammu and raped her and captured her videos and photographs. He continued to blackmail her during all these years till she got the courage and inspiration from #MeToo# campaign and decided to file a rape case against the accuse and demanded for registration of an FIR against the accused U/S 109/376/504/506 RPC.
After receiving the complaint, the Kishtwar police swung into action and detained the accused and his brother, but with the intervention of the politicians and relatives of both the families, the family members of the accused accepted his fault and floated the proposal of marriage. But the victim and her family members wanted some guarantees and sureties in the form of cash deposits and land share in case the accused abandon her later.
After 4-5 day hectic parlays within the Kishtwar police station premises, the relevant documents from the local court was prepared including the marriage agreement and other assurances demanded by the victims family.
After completion of some legal formalities, both the accused and the victim solemnized the marriage at Ghori Shanker Mandir away from media gaze.
After the formal marriage took place, the victim withdraw her complaint and accordingly Kishtwar police disposed of the case without registration of any FIR against the accused and his brother.
However the sources told the Early Times that the departmental inquiry has been initiated against the accused for misusing the official premises.
