Nephrology department at SSH Jammu organizes CME

JAMMU, Nov 10: The Nephrology Department at Super Speciality Hospital Jammu organized a CME on Stoke and Chronic Kidney Diseases and also upgraded Dialysis Unit in the hospital to patients will avail advance facilities under the same roof. Speaking on the occasion, the Head of Nephrology Department Dr SK Bali said the Stroke is one of the major forms of cardiovascular disease accounting for significant morbidity and mortality worldwide, it is defined as the sudden onset of focal neurological deficit associated with cerebral ischaemia and Chronic Kidney Disease is an important health challenge with a prevalence of 8 - 16% worldwide. He further added that the growing evidence suggests that cardiovascular disease is more frequent and severe in patients with CKD as compared to general population. Patients with eGFR <60 mL/min/1.73 sq m have 2 - 16 times greater risk of MACE compared with patients having eGFR >60mL/min/1.73 sq.m.
He also said the CVD including stroke are more frequent and severe in patients with CKD and control of traditional risk factors such as diabetes, obesity and smoking is recommended for stroke prevention in this population. However, control ofnon-traditional risk factors including anaemia, accelerated hypertension and reducing uremic toxins is also recommended in the CKD population.
