Local residents of this area believe that, tall claims of digital India is just like a dream that has not been yet fulfilled by the department of Public Health Engineering (PHE), as people have not met the basic needs of life in this 21st century.
"There are scores of rural villages that lacks the basic needs of life, like roads, electricity and drinking water, but two villages of Pattan tehsil including Harinara and Duslipora do not have the drinking water facility as the women of these areas fetch the contaminated water from far off streams, nullah and due to that they are putting their lives at risk of waterborne diseases' said locals.
Local said that scores of women and children have complained that due to contaminated water they are suffering from water-borne diseases adding in the recent past many people have developed several intestinal infections.
However, sources said that the two villages Dusilpora and Harinara that where falling under the PHE division Sopore for last twenty years, and now they were connected with PHE division Baramulla.
Unfortunately both the divisions have failed to provide the safe drinking water to the poor villagers and rest of the areas manage to get water for some half an hour in a day, sources told Early Times.
They said that only one tanker of drinking water is being supplied to the two villages and the department cannot fulfill their basic requirement as per needs.
Locals lamented that the water supply pipes and the sources are both contaminated and the water is unfit for human consumption.
Locals alleged that the department concerned has spent millions of rupees on water reservoirs and filtration plants in Pattan tehsil, but despite that, the area is without drinking water from past many years.
