Early Times Report

Kupwara, Nov 11: One militant was killed today in a brief exchange of fire between militants and security forces in Handwara.
A top police official told Early Times that today afternoon, a group of militants while moving through Handwara was intercepted by a naka party near Chattipora in the jurisdiction of Police Station Handwara.
Soon after the interception, the militants fired upon the naka party, which was retaliated by the security forces and in the exchange of gunfire one militant was killed, the police official said.
The official said that, the identity of the killed militant was not immediately ascertained, but the case was registered and investigation was taken up.
It is believed that another militant had escaped from the spot, adding a joint team of security forces including army, police, SOG and CRPF cordoned off the area and searches were carried out to trace the militants from the nearby orchard fields, the official said.
However reports said that, the militant had tried to through a grenade on the Naka party but that was exploded in the hand of a militant, and with the result he died on spot.
Sources from the Handwara area said that on Sunday security forces launched a cordon and search operation (CASO) in Wadder Bala area of Rajwar in Handwara town.
A joint team of army, CRPF, and SOG cordoned off Wadder Bala area of Rajwar in Handwara, adding the search operation was carried out, after the security forces had got inputs about the presence of militants in the area, sources informed.
Meanwhile a top rank army official while talking to ET said that, dozens of militants are ready to infiltrate into this side of the Line of Control.
"Usually border areas receive more snowfall during winters than the plains and militants want to take benefit of it. But our soldiers are ready to give befitting reply if any infiltration bid took place in north Kashmir and other parts of Kashmir valley, the official said.
The official further said that there are chances as we have witnessed earlier infiltration attempts but we won't allow the militants to sneak into this side of the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir parts.
Pertinently yesterday India and Pakistan exchanged fire along the LoC in Tangdar area. The Pakistani troops had targeted the Indian Army posts in Tangdhar after which the Indian Army retaliated.
