Early Times Report
Anantnag, Nov 19: Forest department Monday launched anti-encroachment drive in various areas falling under the jurisdiction of Lidder Forest Division and retrieved 20 Kanals of land in Hapthnar village of Anantnag.
Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Lidder Forest Division, Feroz Ahmad told Early Times that anti-encroachment drive kick started from Hapthnar village of Pahalgam. Hapthnar village falls in jurisdiction of Mattan range.
"20 Kanals of forest land was retrieved back in compartment 17 of Mattan range and 3 Kothas raised illegally on forest were demolished," he said.
Earlier, the department has booked several offenders for attempting to grab forest land by raising constructions over it particularly at Pahalgam.
The department has also 9 logs measuring 36ft of timber during a combing operation in Mattan range on Monday.
DFO said that he has taken a strong note of illegal felling of green trees and directed staff to undertake a fresh combing operation in Mattan range.
Important to mention, Department has admitted in assembly last year that at least 33 hectors of land has been encroached illegally at Pahalgam in South Kashmir's Anantnag.
