katra, Nov 19: The employees of Municipal Committee Katra have been accused of harassing the poor, marginalized hawkers by seizing their items which they sell to the pilgrims to make a living. The seized items, the locals said, are released after taking commission.
The employees of MC Katra have adopted new method to churn money from the poor hawkers by seizing their stuff and take heavy commission to release their belongings. These people sell their items by moving from one place to other but those shopkeepers who encroach upon the streets, roads remain untouched due to monthly commission paid to the employees of Municipal Committee by them.
"The shops at Main Bazar Katra to Chinta Bazar, there are 200 shops can be seen encroached by hawkers and shopkeepers who have put items in front of their shops but MC has turned deaf ears to these violators," they alleged further saying that the employees of MC lifts the items after every ten days and release their seized articles after taking graft.
They have appealed to the Governor SP Malik to take action against erring employees of MC. The concerned EO could not be contacted due to his switch off mobile.
