Major bovine smuggling Bid foiled, 108 animals rescued; 8 smugglers arrested

Jammu, Nov 24: In continuation to operation "Kamdhenu", launched by incharge Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Jammu-Kathua-Samba Range and also looking after the charge of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu-Vivek Gupta against the menace of bovine smuggling, Jammu Police today foiled a major attempt of bovine smugglers to transport bovine animals illegally to Kashmir Valley.
Police spokesman said that acting on specific Information, Nagrota police raised a special naka near Ban Toll Plaza Nagrota NHW.
"During naka checking, seven trucks bearing Registration number JK21A-9686, JK03-4433, JK02AG-5337, JK21A-9527, JKO2AT-2737 JKO2W-3833 and JKO2AK-6741 coming from Narwal side were signalled to stop but the drivers tried to accelerate the vehicles and run away", said spokesman adding that the alert cops on naka chased the vehicle and apprehended it after a brief chase.
Spokesman further said that on checking, 108 bovine animals were rescued from the vehicles and eight bovine smugglers namely Ajaz Ahmed Bhat of Kulgam, Younis of Vijaypur, Samba Liaqat Ali of Anantnag, Mohd Sameer of Ragoora Jammu, Mohd Ashraf of Anantnag presently staying at Sidhra, Shahnawaz Wani of Anantnag presently staying at Ragoora Jammu, Niku of Mishriwala Jammu and Mohd Aslam of Vijaypur, Samba were arrested on spot whereas few bovine smugglers manage to escape under the cover of darkness.
The bovine animals were tied very mercilessly by the smugglers and in this connection, a case under FIR Nos. 292/2018, 293/2018, 294/2018, 295/2018, 296/2018, 297/2018, and 298/2018 under sections 188 of RPC, 3/5 PCA Act have been registered at Police Station Nagrota.
Meanwhile, one truck bearing registration number JKO2W-3567 was apprehended by Jhajjar Kotli Police and rescued 11 bovines. Police team led by Inspector Deepak Pathania-SHO Nagrota and Inspector Sanjeev Gupta-SHO Jhajjar Kotli made the arrests under the supervision of DySP Mohan Sharma-SDPO Nagrota and Girdhari Lal Sharma-incharge SP Rural Jammu.
