GM Aravindh wins 11th round to share top spot with Stany

JAMMU, Dec 17: Defeating the overnight leader, GM Vaibhav Suri of PSPB, young GM Aravindh Chithambaram today returned the top spot sharing the position with another young guy, IM Stany with 8.5 points at the end of 11th round in the National Senior Open Chess Championship underway here today.
Aravindh, who was trailing behind Vaibhav and Stany yesterday at third spot, was brilliant in his moves to be beat a better player. However, Stany could bring in a draw to remain in the lead. Five other players, GM Karthikeyan Murali, GM Vaibhav Suri, GM Deepan Chakkravarthy, GM Bakre Tejas and IM Krishna were at the third spot with 8.0 points each.
Brilliant Stany has been awarded the GM norm considering his brilliant show against higher rated opponents. He was among five players, who have been awarded the norms after tenth round. They are GA Stany (GM norm), Srijit Paul, Navalgund Niranjan, Ritviz Parab, Harshvardhan, all IM norms.
Chairman of the organising secretary and president of the AJKCA, Atul Kumar Gupta congratulated all the players who achieved Norms in the ongoing event.
Meanwhile, as per the organisers, the final shall be played tomorrow followed by the valedictory function and the first position holder shall get Rs.5 Lacs prize money.
In the meantime, Soham kamotra of J &K was leading among the host state with 5.5 points.
