Jammu, Dec 17: The ambitious smart city project of the Union government has failed to achieve a landmark in Jammu Kashmir as against the sanctioned funds of Rs 106 Crores for Jammu and Srinagar, only Rs 19 Crores have been spent on so far.
A document in possession of Early Times reveals that the twin cities- Jammu and Srinagar came under the smart city mission in round three in June, 2017, since then the erstwhile PDP-BJP government has utterly failed to make both the cities smart.
"Just after the announcement, the Union government has sanctioned Rs 52 Crores for the development of Srinagar city whereas Rs 54 Crores were allocated for Jammu under smart cities mission but against the allocation, the state government has not utilized these funds so far", the document reveals.
Of the sanctioned amount, only 4.22 Crores were spent on the development of Srinagar City and 15 Crores to make Jammu City smart. The remaining amount is still lying unused.
Sources informed that however, the smart cities mission launched was in year, 2015 by the Modi government and its aims to tackle the escalating problems of urban areas including transportation, urban infrastructure, lane & drainage, Parking and overall quality of life but most of projects were initiated during the erstwhile PDP-BJP government in Jammu cities either to be stalled or executing at snail's pace.
"For instances the projects which makes dent on smart cities mission in Jammu is that the previous government has initiated parking and sewerage network in Jammu city especially in old city under various centrally sponsored schemes, have not been completed so far due to the faulty planning of executive bodies", alleged sources.
