People hold demonstration against police for allegedly shielding drug peddlers in Rajouri

RAJOURI, Dec 31: A protest demonstration against police was held by the people of Saranoo village alleging that police having a soft corner against the people involved in drug peddling.
The people captured two drug peddlers and handed over them to Ajaz Haider, SHO Rajouri police station after one of the accused hit the shop of one Baldev Singh at village Saranoo and injured him while sitting in the shop.
Sources said that two youths travelling in the car bearing registration No. CHO3X-3196 were under the influence of drugs and one among them was captured by the people while another escaped.
People informed the police at Rajouri but before the police could reach another car bearing No.JK02BX-9667 carrying three colleagues of the captured person reached the spot and had first verbal dispute with the people of the Saranoo and then had physical scuffle in order to free their colleague.
But, sources added, people also captured one of the supporter while other managed to escape. In the meantime people blocked the Rajouri-Kalakot road and raised slogans against the police for helping the drug peddlers as one of the captured person openly admitted support from police in the trade.
People also claimed to have recovered reportedly drug powder syringes, capsules from the car that hit the shop. Police have also admitted that from the items recovered from the possession of the persons revealed that they were habitual drug addicts.
However, police have booked all the accused in two separate cases for rash driving/accident and physical scuffle. "Police is investigating the incident from all angles including that of drug sale. Initially 5-6 persons have been booked for accident and physical attack" said SHO.
