Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 3: It may not be perhaps wrong to say that maintaining law and order doesn't need muscular power, as a lady Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) posted as Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) in Jammu has apparently tightened noose against crime and criminals.
Dr Sunniya Wani, who was deputed as SDPO, South (Gandhi Nagar) in September last year has proven that if intentions are clear and if duties are discharged with dedication and honesty, the gender hardly is an impediment.
In less than six months, the police under direct supervision of Dr Wani has seized Heroine, Ganja, charas and other intoxicants, thus ensuring partial elimination of drugs from the society. According to data shared by police department, in last six months, police under the supervision of Dr Wani has seized over 2kg heroine, 9 kg Ganja, 4.2kg Charas approximately and 1060 intoxicants. This is big seizure in limited period of less than six months and all this happened owing to the strenuous efforts of the lady DySP.
"Around 20 FIRS have been registered under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) (ACT) in the South Sub-Division during the tenure of Dr Sunniya Wani," reads the official data.
Most of the drugs dealers in South Sub-Division have shifted their places from the said Sub-Division fearing tough action from SDPO South-Dr Sunniya Wani.
Sunniya is daughter of DIG Ashkoor Ahmed Wani, IPS, who had 35 years ago joined as a DySP at Sher-e- Kashmir Police Academy and played an outstanding role in battling militancy in the state. He stood today as a proud father of a daughter who has decided to carry forward his legacy in the Police Department.
It is pertinent to mention here that DySP Sunniya had secured the 'All-Round Best' DySP award during the attestation-cum-passing out parade of Deputy Superintendents of Police (DySPs) and police officers at Sher-e-Kashmir Police Academy, Udhampur on October 28 of 2016.
Prior to joining police department, Sunniya Wani was a Doctor and there also she proved her metal as she is a gold medalist in MBBS and is now walking on the footsteps of her father.
