Army is the true nobility of our country
3/3/2019 11:12:35 PM
Jamwal Mahadeep Singh

Qualifying for military service in the Army, Navy, and Air Force, in it is an achievement and honor. In United States honorable service means only service in the U.S. Armed Forces. 'Indian Army', when we utter these two words, our heads get down with respect and gratitude to their sacrifice and nobility. From the icy terrain of Himalaya to the scorching heat of desert, they guard us as their family all day and night without complaining. From the dawn of our independence, they keep us guarding from the intruders, terrorists and other external attacks. The role of the Military in a Democracy is the same as the role of the Military in any other political system - except that in a Democracy, there is civilian control of the Military establishment and, therefore, no threat of a military coup against the political establishment. Taking advantage of the situation, politicians never restrain themselves from playing politics over army. The protective instinct on display represents the military far better than any written description ever could - sacrificing one's all to safeguard the many. We come across many changes that have taken place in armed forces from the traditions. The norm in the "good old days" was never to discuss women and the politics in the forces but now these subjects are gradually "inching" their way into the discourse (Army chief Gen. Bipin Rawat, in December 2017, while speaking at an event organized by the United Service Institution). Army Chief Gen. Bipin Rawat's, words that there was a politicization of the armed forces and the military should be kept away from politics deserved to be valued at the priority. We remember the action of a crack team of the Indian Army that crossed the border and struck at terror launch pads which were collocated with the Pakistan Army facilities, after Uri attack in 2016. Days after the strikes, the Modi-led BJP government went hammer and tongs publicizing it to such an extent that Lt Gen (retired) DS Hooda, who was the chief of the Northern Command of the Army during the surgical strike, stirred a hornet's nest by saying that the strikes were politicized and overhyped. We come across the words of a defence and strategic affairs expert available on search engine way back from January 2019 that 'Never before has a single operation been politically milked as much as to make the government order the Army to commemorate the second anniversary of the surgical strike countrywide". At the same time some political parties demanding proof of the attacks, a position that tantamount to doubting the Indian Army. The generosity and loyalty of the Indian Army cannot be questioned.
Come what may, one change remains the same in the forces that is their Task & Duty. They are required to ensure the security of this country against all the odds. Yet a field where we find no changes lies in the essence of the words of Field Marshal Sam Hormusji Framji Jamshedji Manekshaw, uttered many years ago "I wonder whether those of our political masters who have been put in charge of the defence of the country can distinguish a mortar from a motor; a gun from a howitzer; a guerrilla from a gorilla, although a great many resemble the latter". The brave hearted soldiers are the brave sons of our motherland, There are innumerable such brave soldiers, who made extreme sacrifices for our motherland, India. But we feel ashamed at time, when our political class, a pseudo secular class that project itself as true nationalist, by their art of mastery on verbosity and when dare devil deeds of our brave hearts are channelized to muster the vote bank. To extend shoulder, accompany the remains of the martyr and exaggerated words of sympathy are just nothing more than the photo shoot sessions for the power hungry politicians. They never miss an occasion in mustering vote bank. Such politicians are advised to go through the colloquy of our brave hearts that is the booster dose to our forces. "Some goals are so worthy, it's glorious even to fail" - "If death strikes before I prove my blood, I swear, I will kill death - words of 24 year young Captain Manoj Kumar Pandey, hero of Kargil war, PVC awardees of 1999, "I'll either come back after raising the Indian flag in victory or return wrapped in it" - A 25 year old hero of Kargil War, Captain Vikran Batra, other PVC awardees famously known as 'Sher Shah' in the intercepted messages of the Pakistan army. "You have never lived until, you have almost died. And for those who choose to fight, life has a special flavor, the protected will never know" - Captain R Subramanium, Kirti Chakra (Posth). "The enemy is only 50 yards from us. We are heavily outnumbered. We are under devastating fire. I shall not withdraw an inch but will fight to our last man and our last round" - Major Som Nath Sharma, India's first Param Vir Chakra winner. The Indian Armed Forces, consisting of the Indian Army, the Indian Air Force, the Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard are India's shield and sword, which keep our interests safe, our enemies at bay and the people of our country secure and free. They are respected and adored for their valor and sense of duty by the entire country.
Once in a while, people face a great chance, a great moment, when they can express all their ability to be shined. Ability is what you have inside of you, what yourself is really mean. Everyone has their own unique ability which is always waiting to be shined, and this is the title of the write up telling us that every people's ability is accepted through chance and moments, you will face through lifetime. Such moments in a uniformed person's lifetime comes riding on the wheels carrying death and destruction, probably during war time but the insurgency and militancy has also become one of the factor that is always available in troubled state of J&K. Price of peace could only be valued by people who had suffered loss in the war. If you believe in yourself and have dedication and pride and never quit, you'll be a winner. The price of victory is high but so are the rewards. Such brave soldiers are the rel life heroes of India.
Many of us would know about their triumphs and stellar contributions to civilian life. But here are a few facts which will increase respect for the Indian military ten-fold. India controls the highest battlefield in the world, the Siachen glacier, at 5000 meters above Mean Sea Level (MSL). India has the biggest "voluntary" army in the world. Indian soldiers are considered among the very best in high altitude and mountain warfare. The Indian army's High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS) is one of the most elite military training centers in the world and is frequented by Special Ops teams from the U.S, U.K & Russia. U.S Special Forces trained at HAWS before their deployment during the invasion of Afghanistan. Unlike other government organizations and institutions in India, there are no provisions for reservations based on caste or religion in Army. Operation Rahat (2013) was one of the biggest civilian rescue operations ever carried out in the world. It was carried out by the Indian Air Force to evacuate civilians affected by the floods in Uttarakhand in 2013. It was the biggest civilian rescue operations in the world carried out by any Air Force using helicopters. During the first phase of the operation from 17 June 2013, the IAF airlifted a total of about 20,000 people; flying a total of 2,140 sorties and dropping a total of 3,82,400 kg of relief material and equipment.
Concluding the write up, let's recall and salute all the brave soldiers of India, who fought for us and even sacrificed their lives, so that we can live peacefully in our homes. Let the motto of our armed forces be chanted as a morning prayer to feel proud of our brave hearts that are: 'Service before self', meaning 'Aapne se pehle seva', a motto of Indian Army, Kartavyam Anvatma meaning: 'duty before death', motto of The Dogra Regiment, 'Balidanam Vir Lakshaman' meaning: 'sacrifice is a sign of brave', motto of 'The Jammu And Kashmir Light Infantry', 'Prashata Rnvirta' meaning: valour in battle is praiseworthy, motto of 'The Jammu And Kashmir Rifles', 'Veer Bhogya Vasundara' meaning: the brave shall inherit the Earth, 'Kartavya jeevan Paryant' meaning: duty unto death, motto of 'Border Security Force', 'Aakasey Satrun Jahi' meaning: win over the enemy in the sky, motto of Army Air Defence, 'Nabvha Sparsham Deeptam,' meaning: touch the sky with glory, motto of Indian Air Force, 'Sha-No Varuna' meaning: make the lord of the oceans be auspicious to us, motto of Indian Navy, 'Sarve Santu Niramaya' meaning: freedom from sickness to all, motto of the Army Medical Corps.
