Early Times Report

JAMMU, Apr 16: Balvinder Singh, an RTI activist while addressing the Press Conference made some shocking revelations, based on the information received under RTI, with regard to the Diet being given to the patients in various Govt Hospitals in Jammu Division.
The RTI revealed that SKIMS provides Non Veg Diet in Srinagar Hospitals @ Rs.91, Dal Sabzi in Jammu Hospital @ Rs.134.
Singh further said that as per the information recived under RTI from SKIMS hospital is giving one Cup tea 2 bread Slice and one boiled Egg in the breakfast, Rice + Chicken+ Veg+saag five days a week in the Lunch, One Cup tea & two Brtead Slice in the evening tea and Rice, Chicken with curry +Veg (carrot+Capasicum + French beans) five days a week in the dinner and are charging in an average Rs. 91. Per day per patient.
The Information received from Government Medical College Jammu shows that they are giving Dal Sabzi to the indoor patients @Rs.134, without evening tea, which is more than 45% higher than the rates of Non-veg diet being given by Sher I Kashmir Institute of Medical Science & 50% higher than the Veg Diet being given by Psychiatric Disease Hospital Srinagar who is giving Veg Diet to the Indoor Patients @Rs 93.50.
Various hospitals in Jammu like GMC, SMGS & Psychiatric they are giving 4 slice of bread with Vegetable in the breakfast and served it to the patients at 5.30 AM, 5 Chapatis, One Rice Plate, Dal & Vegetable in the Lunch and Mix Dal, Paneer Curry, Rice & 4 Chapatis twice a week in the dinner and Nutri curry once a week in the dinner. No evening tea is given to the indoor patients in the Jammu Govt Hospitals.
Patients in the hospitals needs high calorie energy supplements and nutrients so that they could recover from the illness at the earliest, but indoor patients in Jammu Hospitals are being given sub-standard diet without adhering to the terms and conditions laid down in the Tender Documents , which specify the quantity of uncooked rice 60gms, Vegetable Uncooked 75 grams, Dal uncooked 50 grams and Paneer uncooked 50 grams. Singh Strongly criticised the Hospital Management especially the MS of each hospital for not proper monitoring or surprise checking of the diet. It is clearly mentioned in the Contract that the contractor will distribute "DIET" to the in-patients from "BED TO BED" basis but the same is not being done the distribution was made in the Verandah with the result the patients who don't have any attendant with him sometimes couldn't get diet because of inability to move due to his sickness.
Though there is the mention of giving, Egg Hen Boiled with ½ ltr and 1 ltr milk of Amul, Verka/Surya or any brand of repute , at serial No. 13 & 14 of annexure "D" attached with the tender Document but the same is not providing to the patients for the last so many years.
Singh further urged upon Hon'ble Governor of our State Jenab Satya Pal Malik to initiate time bound enquiry to look into how the supply of DIET is given at so high rates as compared to the Non-Veg Diet being given to the Indoor Patients at SKIMS and also urges to take stern action against the MS and Management of all the Hospitals.
Others who were present in the press Conference were Som Nath Dabgotra S. Manmohan Singh and Mahesh Singh Kotwal.
