War of words between Abdullahs, Mufti, Lone escalates
Divided Kashmir
4/16/2019 11:52:59 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 16: Gone are the days when Abdullah dynasty would reign supreme in Kashmir and rule or misrule J&K unhindered with New Delhi talking it seriously and virtually dancing to its tunes. Today, Kashmir's political scene is altogether different. Not one, but two more non-Congress and non-NC outfits in Kashmir are challenging the Abdullah dynasty. One is the PDP of Mehbooba Mufti and the other is the People's Conference (PC) of militant-turned-politician and late Abdul Gani Lone's son, Sajad Lone.
Both the PDP and the PC are exposing the Abdullah dynasty to the hilt and accusing it of diluting the state's special status, rigging assembly elections at regular intervals and promoting corruption and the corrupt and amassing wealth on an unprecedented scale. Lone is hurling threats on a daily basis that he will expose both Farooq Abdullah's deeds of corruption and Omar Abdullah's failed plan to stitch alliance with the BJP in 2014.
Only the other days, Lone said: "Person charge sheeted by the CBI and out on bail, for stealing 120 crores in the JKCA scam, is the new sermonizer of financial morality in the town. If anything goes to credit of Farooq sahib, it is in terms of setting new standards of thievery. Dr. Farooq sahib sits on assets worth thousands of crores and is the most notorious mismatch between known sources of income and wealth holding. I promise I will apologize publicly if you are able to match your income with the huge wealth that you have accumulated. It would take an entire book to record the details of loot and plunder. Under Omar Abdullah regime a non-State Subject friend was inducted as a director in the JK Bank, who gained the sobriquet of corporate broker. Hundreds of crores were loaned to non-State Subject companies who were blacklisted or on the verge of joining the category of NPA. It is a well known fact that the commission rate going for granting loans was 2-5%. So will Omar Abdullah tell us what his net earnings were from the kickbacks received from these companies? We will come up with details very soon".
On the other hand, the PDP's Mehbooba Mufti and other leaders, including former Education Minister Naeem Akhtar, are not only leveling all sorts of charges against the Abdullah dynasty but also allowing the Union Government to bring to J&K POTA and NIT. They are blaming the Abdullah dynasty for all the troubles in Kashmir and also accusing the Congress of flirting with the Abdullahs to weaken the state's special status.
The manner in which the Mufti and Lone have unleashed a campaign against the Abdullah dynasty has unnerved the Abdullah dynasty to the extent that Farooq Abdullah has described "Inkpot" party (PDP) and the "Apple" party (PC) as the Kashmir's biggest enemies and agents not only of New Delhi but also of the BJP-RSS. However, the Abdullahs have failed to rebut the revelation made by Lone that Omar tried his best to form coalition government with the BJP in 2014.
The most striking aspect of the whole situation in Kashmir is that while Mehbooba Mufti is struggling hard to retain control over Anantnag area, Abdullahs are working hard to retain control over Srinagar area. As for Lone, he is trying to establish his control over Baramulla, Handwara and Kupwara areas.
