Big Embarrassment For Rahul Gandhi: 'We Have Never Backed The Slogan Chowkidar Chor Hai', Says Ally
4/17/2019 6:27:16 PM

Mumbai

In a major embarrassment to the Congress, its J&K ally National Conference (NC) Chief and the former J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday has said 'they had never said chowkidar chor hai'.

"We have never backed the slogan 'Chowkidar chor hai.' We have definitely said that Chowkidar has been unsuccessful. Chowkidar has failed."

Listing all the terror attacks that have occurred in J&K through the NDA government's reign, Abdullah has slammed PM Modi saying that he has failed to protect the nation as its chowkidar.

"And one who keeps promising in rallies of doing chowkidari, we have only seen his chowkidari fail whether it is the attacks at Uri, Pathankot, Nagrota, Sunjwhan or Pulwama. Everywhere chowkidari has only failed," he said.

Continuing his tirade against PM Modi, he has also slammed the government's policy failures to curb black money.

"He has failed in saving the economy. After demonetisation, black money was supposed to have stopped. But there also chowkidar has failed. We don't say chowkidar chor hai, we say that he has failed," he added.

Abdullah who had recently called for a 'separate Prime Minister' for the state of Jammu and Kashmir in BJP's pitch to abolish Article 370 and 35A, is an ally of the Congress in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

"To maintain our identity distinctly, we entered certain things in the Constitution. We said our identity would be ours, we will have our own law, our own flag. At that time we also had our President and Prime Minister, and we will bring that back," he had added.

Congress president Rahul Gandhi had first coined the term 'Chowkidar chor hai'. Post this jibe, the BJP, after conducting surveys, reportedly found out that the jibes by the Gandhi scion wasn't going down well with the people of this country, and hence launched the #MainBhiChowkidar campaign which has become one of its campaign's themes.

Jammu and Kashmir will vote for the Lok Sabha Elections 2019 in five phases on April 11, 18, 23, 29 and May 6, 2019.
