Separatists, pro-Pak elements in Kashmir at the receiving end

JAMMU, May 14: The pro-active policy adopted by the Narendra Modi Government against the separatist camp comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik and other pro-Pakistan elements has adversely impacted the so-called freedom struggle in Kashmir. It is in the words of Kashmir-watchers "causing a significant dent in their break-India activities in the Valley".
"Following the pro-active policy adopted by the New Delhi on Kashmir issue, the separatist camp has been at the receiving end as most of their leaders are either being jailed or summoned on daily basis for investigation purposes," Kashmir-watchers have said. They appear absolutely right.
An overwhelming majority of the separatist leaders, including Jammu & Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Yasin Malik and president of Jammu & Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP) Shabir Ahmad Shah are all in jail.
Others who have been arrested by the NIA in the "Terror-funding" cases and put behind bars in Delhi's Tihar Jail include Dr G M Bhat, Altaf Ahmad Shah, Ayaz Akbar, Peer Saifullah, Raja Mehraj-ud-din Kalwal, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Farooq Ahmad Dar, Shahid-ul-Islam, Syed Shahid Yousuf and Syed Shakeel Ahmad.
Not just this. The chairperson Dukhtaran-e-Millat, Syeda Asia Indrabi, along with her associates -- Fehmeeda Sofi and Nahida Nasreen - have also been arrested and lodged in the high security Delhi's Tihar jail.
The Government of India (GoI) has also banned JKLF for allegedly funneling funds into militancy and Jamaat-E-Islami and arrested at least 600 Jamaatis. So much so, the home of chairman Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was also raided by NIA and he was summoned and interrogated by NIA in New Delhi recently. Besides, his security cover has also been withdrawn.
Besides, two sons and a grandson of Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani were also summoned by the NIA for investigation; while he himself continuous to be under house arrest for the past nine years.
The only two top separatists who are not put behind the Tihar Jail are Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and there are reasons to believe that they would also meet the fate Yasin Malik and Shabir Shah met if they continued to muddy Indian waters in Kashmir.
