Security establishment worried about large number of new recruits in Kashmir, terms situation alarming
6/2/2019 11:37:41 PM
Early Times Report
Srinagar, June 2: For the Indian Army and Jammu and Kashmir Police increase in the number of new recruits especially youngsters from the Valley is a serious cause of concern.
According to a report, around 50 youngsters have joined various terror outfits since March while over 101 terrorists have been eliminated. Now, the security establishment is finding ways to cut off the supply chain and is even contemplating educating families on the radicalization of the youth.
As per the official report, 101 militants including 23 foreigners and 78 local militants have been killed in 2019 till May 31. Zakir Musa, who was the chief of so-called Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, a group affiliated with Al-Qaeda, was also killed during this period.
One disturbing trend after the elimination of Musa is the sudden surge of terrorists from Hizbul Mujahideen joining Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind.
The officials have opined that there is a need to analyze all anti-militancy policy and also to engage with the youths and parents to educate them about evils of radicalization.
The highest numbers of terrorists killed were from the highly-volatile areas in south Kashmir namely Shopian, Pulwama, Awantipora and Kulgam.
The report further indicates that infiltration has also increased and added that some of the terrorists are sneaking in from Poonch and Rajouri districts of Jammu region as well as from the LoC in Kashmir Valley.
The situation is alarming given the fact that the two-month-long Amarnath Yatra will start by this month-end.
After the ghastly suicide attack on the CRPF convoy in J&K's Pulwama, encounters between terrorists and security forces have not only increased but have also turned into a violent show between the stone pelters and security forces followed by large gatherings at funerals.
The officials believe that this emotionally charged environment is ideal for terror outfits to recruit fresh cadres.
