BJP should rectify its mistake by setting up delimitation commision: Manohar

JAMMU, June 6: Former Minister and President DCC Kathua Dr Manohar Lal Sharma while reacting to news of setting up of delimitation commission in State by central government said that delimitation commission is the need of the hour in the state and by setting up delimitation commission BJP government will get a chance to rectify its own mistake conducted by then NDA govt in 2001.
He said that the NDA government led by then PM Atal Bihari Vajyapee passed an amendment Bill in parliament paving way for stopping delimitation commission constitution up to 2026 in the whole country. "Subsequently following the same lines the National conference government led by then CM Dr. Farooq Abdullah in the state which was in majority and also the part of then NDA govt. at center presented and passed an constitutional amendments in state assembly in 2002 which halted the delimitation process till 2026 and further said that the delimitation can be undertaken only after 2026 census", he added.
Dr Sharma further said that setting up of delimitation commission, wazir commission and finance commission were main points in election manifesto of congress party in 2002 state ASSEMBLY ELECTIONS and infect when congress came to power wazir commission report was implemented and many new districts were made.
Further he said in 2006 the former chief minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, had convened a meeting of all parties to seek consensus for delimitation and after discussing it in cabinet pushed an constitution amendment bill in the assembly but unfortunately it was not passed due to lack of strength in the assembly. Manohar further said that the delimitation exercise be initiated in the state, keeping in mind the background, population, areas and geographical topography of the state and further said that if BJP government sets up delimitation commission in the state he will be the first to welcome such step as delimitation commission is the need of hour in the state.
