IMO demands separate Directorate of ISM for Jammu
6/7/2019 11:47:31 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, June 7: Indigenous Medicines Organisation (IMO) Jammu has demanded a separate directorate of Indian System of Medicines for Jammu.
According to press release, Dr. K.K. Kapoor Vice President of IMO said that there are total no of 504 dispensaries of ISM&H department.
"Out of these 504, 272 are Ayurvedic and 4 posts of MOs are in Govt. Ayurvedic Hospital Jammu. 32 Unani Dispensaries are in Jammu Division and 28 Ayurvedic Dispensaries are in Kashmir Division. 90% posts of Medical Officers in the district of Doda, Ramban, Kishatwar, Rajouri and Poonch are consumed by posting Unani doctors against the posts of Ayurvedic medical Officers in Govt. Ayurvedic Dispensaries. Never the less 7 Unani doctors are posted in Jammu district whereas there is only one post of MO Unani", he said.
On the contrary only a few Ayurvedic doctors are posted in Kashmir division against the 28 posts of Ayurvedic Medical Officers.
There are total no of 14 posts of ADMOs. Out of these 6 posts are to be filled by promotion from Ayurvedic MOs, all in Jammu division where as 7 posts of ADMOs in Kashmir division are to be filled by promotion from the Unani medical officers. One post of ADMO Ayurvedic is in Kashmir. This post is always filled by promoting Unani MO, he said.
Dr. Khajan Singh Chairman of IMO said that Ayurved is a well-developed 5000 years old system of medicine being discriminated in the hands of religiously poisoned officers in administration. In 1987 when ISM department was separated from Health Department, a Unani doctors was made Director superseding the Ayurvedic doctor. Under a well designed strategy the nomenclature if posts as well as dispensary is being changed from Ayurvedic or Unani Dispensary to ISM dispensary and by this Ayurvedic posts and dispensaries are being converted to Unani, they observed.
"Supreme Court of India has given judgment that a person registered in one register cannot practices the other system of medicine. So, Ayurvedic dispensaries are given supply of Ayurvedic medicines, how government allows the Unani doctors posted in Ayurvedic dispensaries to practice Ayurvedic System of medicine?", he questioned.
