Congress leader demands early holding of Assembly elections
6/8/2019 10:35:50 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, June 8: Former Member of Parliament and Congress leader Madan Lal Sharma has demanded early holding of Assembly election in the state.
He was addressing public meeting of Congress workers at Akhnoor in which he took stock of problems of the people of the constituency. Many Sarpanchs, panchs & large number of locals were present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion Madan Sharma said that the central government should hold the assembly elections at the earliest in J&K so that a democratically elected government can function and solve the problems being faced by the people of state.
Speaking on the issue of delimitation he said that in many sections of the electronic and print media the news of setting up of delimitation commission by the central government was shown and it is the need of the hour and the central government should setup and complete the process of delimitation and it should not prove to be a just an election stunt by BJP.
By setting up the delimitation commission BJP will rectify its own mistake which it did in 2001, when the BJP led NDA government passed a law and stopped delimitation till 2026 in the whole country and on the same lines National Conference which was a part of NDA government passed a bill in J&K assembly and stopped the delimitation process till 2026 in J&K.
He said that the delimitation commission should be set up and in a time bound manner it should delimit the constituencies and elections should be held after that at the earliest.
Madan further said that delimitation is along pending demand of J&K state and the Congress government in 2006 pushed an amendment bill in the assembly but it could not be passed due to lack of majority of congress legislators in assembly.
Madan said that the BJP government in J&K had completely failed on the expectations of the people of J&K especially Jammu from where they got a huge mandate by the people. The local administration should work pro-actively and solve the problems of the people of Akhnoor. He said that the BJP government did nothing to regularize the daily wagers and he assured that after the formation of congress government in state the issues of daily wagers will be resolved at the earliest.
Many senior people of the area were present on the occasion. Other leaders who spoke in the meeting were Kuldeep Verma (Former VC OBC Board), MR Sharma, Bachan Singh, Kali das ZDO , Babu Ram, Madan Lal , Satish Sharma, Manjeet Jatt, Jagjyot Singh Rano Devi , Nagar Singh, Gain singh , Rohit and others.
