Early Times Report

Jammu, June 8: The residents of Digiana Pulli Gali No 1 of Ward No. 45 of Jammu Municipal Corporation have been facing multiple civic issues while the concerned authorities seem least bothered about the problems being faced by the residents.
Editor Early Times, Munish Gupta, on Saturday during his mass contact programme at Digiana Pulli, met several people on Saturday. Munish informed them that he would be contesting the forthcoming Assembly elections as an Independent candidate from Gandhi Nagar. He sought their support and urged them to vote for him.
Tarsem Lal, a local resident, told Munish that the drains are totally in dilapidated condition in their street and it has made their lives miserable. "Our lane stinks and has becoming a breeding ground for mosquitoes and insects," Lal said, adding that "It has been two years since the drains are lying in dilapidated state, we contacted the department for repairs but no action has been taken till date."
Tarsem Lal said that taps in their area have been running dry for the past four days. "We are being forced to fetch potable water from other areas," he added.
Meanwhile, he also highlighted the issue of old age pension of elderly women living in his street. These women, Lal said, had applied for the pension scheme with the Social Welfare Department two years ago but till date they haven't received any financial benefit from the Government. He also raised the issue of Ayushman Bharat Scheme and said that the government has left deserving people under this scheme as old women in their area who are financially very weak were not covered.
The main road of Digian Pulli is the classic example of apathetic attitude of various department including PHE, PWD and local bodies where road has been dug up by the PHE for lying pipes which is lying unattended causing huge inconvenience to the locals as well as the pedestrians.
"The drains are choked and there is no outlet for dirty water to reach the nallah. The overflowing drains are uncovered. This has made our lives hell and has affected everyone," said Pinky Devi.
"Main drainage system along the road is not functioning and lying uncovered. These uncovered drains pose threat to human lives," said Dr Sahil Gupta, who has been running Dental Clinic at Digiana Pulli.
A class tenth girl student, Parminder of H. No. 496 Digiana Pulli Gali No. 1, who lost her parents recently in an accident and is living with her maternal grandmother at Digiana expressed serious concern about the service lines of locals passing through her house. " These live wires can fall anytime on our house. Please get these removed," Parminder told Munish.
"The sanitation is another major issue as no safaikaramchari visits our area due to which drains remain choked and water overflows which gushes into our house. Moreover there is no provision for dumping garbage in our area due to which people throw garbage in the streets," she said.
She claimed that they have to pay Rs 200 to safaikaramchari for cleaning drains.
Sakuntla Devi, Karishna Devi, have been living in a dilapidated house which needs immediate repair but due to their poor financial condition they have been unable to get the house repaired on their own. "We have not received any help from government regarding construction of house, nor have we received any old age pension. Our houses have caved in and some of the portion has developed cracks," they said.
