MBBA calls on Manhas, demands restoration of Dogri News Unit, AIR
6/23/2019 11:00:37 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 23: A delegation of the Maatri Bhasha Bachao Andolan (MBBA), Jammu met the member Rajya Sabha Shamsher Singh Manhas here today and presented him a memorandum asking for restoration of Dogri News Unit at central headquarter of All India Radio (AIR), New Delhi.
The delegation requested Manhas to raise the issue in the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament. The delegation was headed by Convener of the Andolan, Hari Chand Jalmeria Advocate while Ramankant Singh Manhas, BR Manhas advocate, Er. Ghulam accompanied him.
Jalmeria while explaining the memorandum, told the MP that Dogri and Kashmiri News Units at central headquarter of All India Radio New Delhi were opened in 1947 in the wake of tribal invasion in the state to counter the poisonous and false propaganda of Pakistan. Now, despite the fact that Dogri has been included in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution and has become one of the 22 national languages, its Central News Unit has been closed since 2017 by the decision of Prasar Bharti Board whereas Kashmiri and Punjabi units continue to be there. This is discrimination with Dogri, said Jalmeria. This has gravely hurt the sentiments of Dogri Speaking people and of all those who understand and love Dogri.
Jalmeria requested the MP Manhas to raise the issue of restoration of Dogri News Unit at central headquarter of All India Radio New Delhi, in Zero hour of ensuing Rajya Sabha Session and also impress upon the Union Government to withdraw its decision and restore Dogri's News Unit at New Delhi without further wastage of time.
Manhas assured the delegation that he would raise the issue in Rajya Sabha and also take it up with Union Government.
